How to upload your picture to the internet

How to upload your picture to the internet

The Internet used to be very simple, and most of the things users had access to were text and some simple pictures. Today, you can use a great variety of many things online to signify who you are on various websites, and many like to use their own picture. In order to do this, you do have to know how to upload your picture, and then how to get it on the site where you need it. It might seem confusing at first, but it is actually a very easy procedure to follow.

The first thing you have to do when you want to upload your picture is to find out how big a size you can have for the site you have in mind. Many have restrictions that you must follow. If you don’t, they will automatically shrink your photo when you upload your picture, and you may not like how it looks. It will probably end up skewed, or may be completely messed up. Find out the restrictions and write them down so you know what you have to work with.

Once you know that information, you should open the photo of your choice in a photo editing program. You can use this program before you upload your picture to be sure it looks just as you like it, and also so that it is of the proper size for the site of your choice. Many will give you restrictions in file size and also by pixels. One common size for many sites is no larger than 100 by 100 pixels. You have settings on your editing software that will allow you to change the pixels to shrink your photo without compromising how it looks.

When your photo is ready, you have to upload your picture to a hosting site. This might be something like PhotoBucket or PictureTrail. They will allow you to store your picture there, and then will offer you links that you can use for your picture all over the Internet. Upload your picture, and then choose the proper link. Some tell you if the link is good for email, bulletin boards, MySpace, etc. If the one you have chosen does not seem to work, try a different one until your picture shows up on the site as it should. Once you do this a few times it will be like second nature to do it again, and you can have fun uploading a new picture to change your avatar or profile any time you wish.
