Computer Video Games

Computer Video Games

In some ways, computer video games have changed in directions you wouldn't expect. There are, of course, the big blockbuster computer games that get more powerful, more realistic, and more impressive with every release. Today's commercial computer video game completely blows away yesterday's. Just think how far first person shooters have come since the early days of Wolfenstein and Doom. Those games impressed a lot of us when they came out, but they are absolutely nothing when compared to the stuff that they can do with computers today.

Paradoxically, this trend in computer games has caused a backlash. More and more people are looking for old school arcade games. Some of these are classic video games from the 80s and early 90s, but others are actually retro games designed to imitate those games but using more current technology and aesthetics. Most of them are distributed through flash download sites where you can look at hundreds of games. You can see demos, fully functional games, shareware, freeware, and crippleware.

Of course, the people who make these computer video games want to make money. I have a friend who is a computer game developer, and he spends a lot of time and effort coming up with excellent, interesting new games. Still, even if you don't buy a computer video games, you are still helping them out. Just by clicking on ads, visiting their sites and increasing traffic, and getting the word out about the computer video games you're playing, you can do a lot to make a little money for some people.

Sometimes, even if you find a computer video games satisfying as it is, it is worth spending the additional money for the full version. Demo versions of computer video games typically only show a few features of the full game. They may have a few levels and some characters and weapons, but they generally won't have a full story line, arsenal, or plot. In addition, often further development is done after the demos are produced. These computer video games can get more sophisticated and the gameplay can actually get better before the final version is out. Since most of these games cost between 10 and 20 dollars, the price is definitely worth it if you like a particular game.

Then again, it's worth it to play for at least an hour before you decide to invest. These computer video games are made quickly and inexpensively, and many of them have very little going for them but cuteness. They are a great distraction from work, but they probably won't give you hours of pleasure. Once you play through them once or twice, you find out that your interest is waning. Play for awhile so you can separate the wheat from the chaff.
